MUBENDE District : The National Resistance Movement (NRM) presidential candidate, General Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, has officially launched his campaign trail in the Buganda Region with a maiden rally held at Kasambya Diocese Play Grounds in Mubende District.
Addressing a large crowd, General Museveni assured voters that the NRM government remains firmly focused on scaling up development and accelerating wealth creation across the country. He cited key infrastructure projects, including the delayed Mityana–Mubende road, whose slow progress he attributed to what he described as lack of focus and mismanagement of funds by some Members of Parliament who diverted resources to non-priority areas.
The NRM flag bearer further confirmed that government has already paid for tarmacking works on the Lusalira–Nkonge–Ssembabule road, alongside other planned road developments aimed at improving transport, trade and service delivery in Mubende District and the wider Greater Mubende region.
On electoral matters, General Museveni warned opposition politicians against inciting violence, saying Uganda’s hard-earned peace must be protected at all costs. He announced that tighter vote protection mechanisms have been put in place, noting that only registered voters verified through the biometric system will be allowed to participate in the forthcoming polls, in line with Electoral Commission guidelines.
The president also cautioned against sectarian politics, emphasizing that the NRM’s politics of unity is the foundation upon which peace and national development have been built. He challenged voters to reject opportunists who misuse government programmes to mislead the population for personal gain.
In a major pledge to the region, General Museveni promised to establish a public university in Greater Mubende to expand access to higher education. He explained that the initiative is part of the NRM government’s broader strategy to set up a public university in each of Uganda’s 19 original sub-regions, noting that eleven sub-regions have already benefited from the programme.
He also committed to upgrading several health centres in Mubende District and extending electricity to the remaining unserved areas in his next term of office, saying improved social services are critical to improving livelihoods.
On agriculture and wealth creation, General Museveni highlighted the success of the government’s coffee farming initiative, which he said has elevated Uganda to one of Africa’s leading coffee producers. He encouraged farmers in Mubende and the entire Buganda region to intensify coffee growing as a pathway to household income growth and national economic transformation.
The NRM presidential candidate emphasized that government wealth creation strategies are deliberately designed to move Ugandans from subsistence to commercial production. He called on residents to embrace the NRM mass line for wealth creation, stressing the importance of selecting profitable enterprises, efficient land utilisation and adopting professional farming practices.
General Museveni concluded by urging the people of Mubende to actively participate in government programmes, noting that commercial agriculture and enterprise development remain key drivers of job creation and sustainable socioeconomic transformation.
