Police in Namayingo District have arrested 21 people during an overnight operation targeting suspected criminal hideouts and other security hotspots in Namayingo Town Council.
The intelligence-led operation was carried out at about 01:00 on Thursday and targeted bars operating beyond permitted hours, illegal gaming centres, known black spots and ghettos.
Police said the 21 suspects, comprising 13 men and eight women, were found in different circumstances during the operation. Some were allegedly drinking in bars operating late and playing loud music, while others were found participating in games of chance or loitering in areas identified as security hotspots.
The arrests are part of ongoing efforts by police to disrupt activities they say could contribute to crime and insecurity in the area. The suspects are being held at Namayingo Central Police Station as investigations continue under station diary references 04, 05 and 06 of 27 August 2026.
“Such operations are intended to disrupt criminal activities and ensure the safety and security of our communities,” said Michael Kasadha, the Busoga East regional police spokesperson.

“Bar owners and gaming centre operators should comply with permitted operating hours and licensing requirements,” he added.
Police said the suspects will be screened during the ongoing inquiries and those found to have committed offences will be taken to court.
Authorities have warned that similar operations will continue across Namayingo as police step up efforts to identify and disrupt places considered potential centres of criminal activity.
