Kampala, Uganda- The parents of Namilyango College have extended the term of office for the PTA executive committee by three more years, following the committee’s impressive performance indicators.
This development was confirmed during the college’s Annual General Meeting, where parents reviewed reports highlighting achievements in infrastructure development, improved student and staff welfare, academic excellence, and other key areas.
After receiving and listening to presentations from the executive members, the parents unanimously resolved to retain the committee for another three-year term, in appreciation of their dedicated service to the college.
PTA Chairman, Eng. Ronald Kato Kayizzi, told the more than 2,000 parents in attendance that the committee had accomplished many planned projects, particularly in upgrading the general infrastructure, which has given the 123-year-old college a renewed appearance.
He commended the parents for their continued support, which enabled the committee to work as a united team in advancing the college’s development agenda.
In his report, Headmaster Mpuuga Constantine Sajjabbi announced that the college would ban the use of kaveera (plastic bags) starting in the 2026 academic year, as part of a deliberate effort to protect the environment and promote the use of electronic alternatives.
Mpuuga explained that the PTA executive committee had made the decision after observing the need to protect the college’s 30-acre campus—17 acres of which is covered by a planted forest. He urged full compliance with the ban, noting that kaveera has been a major contributor to environmental degradation and pollution.
“The college will be a no-kaveera territory effective 2026, and we expect all stakeholders to support this decision for the common good,” Mpuuga said. He added that the college would be embracing a paperless environment as part of a broader strategy to preserve and protect its greenery.
He also thanked the government for the financial support extended to the college, which has significantly contributed to its development efforts.
Earlier, Eng. Kayizzi noted that his team had served with professionalism, commitment, and love for the college, implementing numerous infrastructure projects that have transformed Namilyango College into a modern educational institution, capable of offering a holistic education to students from Uganda and beyond.
The PTA executive committee includes Dr. Betty Nanzigu Mwesigwa as Vice Chairperson, Ronald Ssonko as Treasurer, and Oluk Christopher as the Teachers’ Representative.
Other members include Saul Abok, Maria Mubeezi Kalula, Dr. Fred Kasiisa, and Teddy Jabweli, among others. They collectively thanked the parents for their trust and pledged to work hard to achieve the targets set out in the college’s 10-year strategic plan.
