Kampala, Uganda —The Principal of Seeta High School Mr. Kafumbe Davis has confirmed that a Senior Six student, Kevin Nsamba who tragically drowned in the school’s swimming pool did not know how to swim.
According to a statement the school has released, the incident happened on Sunday evening, August 3, shortly after a football match involving Senior Six students. A group of students reportedly ran to the swimming pool and jumped in without permission or supervision.
“Sadly, the victim, who did not know how to swim, was among them,” the principal said. He added that the school was not immediately aware of the incident and only discovered the student was missing during a routine roll call.
A search was quickly launched by school staff and security, and the police were called in for reinforcement. The student’s body was later found in the pool during a joint search conducted with his parents present.
“The entire Seeta High School community is in deep sorrow,” Principal Kafumbe said.
He added that “We extend our heartfelt condolences to the parents, family, friends, and fellow students during this difficult time.”
Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire confirmed the incident and said investigations are ongoing.
The school described the loss as a heartbreaking tragedy and called for continued prayers and support for the grieving family.
