The Political Commissar, Uganda Police Force, Ubaldo Bamunoba has directed police commanders in the Kigezi Sub-region to intensify efforts in combating the growing number of murder cases, many of which are linked to domestic violence.
Speaking during his ongoing sensitization and ideological orientation tour, Assistant Inspector General of Police acknowledged the dedication of officers in maintaining law and order, but warned that more proactive strategies are urgently needed to address the disturbing rise in violent crime in the area.
“I commend our officers for their commitment, but the increase in murder cases, especially those stemming from domestic violence, is worrying. This calls for deliberate community sensitization efforts,” he said.
He emphasized the critical role of the Child and Family Protection Unit and the Community Liaison Department, urging that these units be fully utilized to help de-escalate family conflicts before they turn deadly.
To boost security in the border region, he instructed commanders to enhance both foot and motorized patrols, while strengthening collaboration with sister security agencies and other stakeholders.
“Kigezi’s position as a border area demands heightened vigilance and seamless inter-agency cooperation,” he added.
He also highlighted the importance of intelligence-led operations guided by a firm and disciplined command structure.
He stressed the use of force multipliers in investigations, particularly through close coordination with the judiciary via case conferencing, to ensure thorough, professional case handling and improved conviction rates.
“This is how we restore public trust, by delivering justice through professional conduct and strategic partnerships,” he added.
Bamunoba urged officers to maintain a positive mindset and remain mission-focused in delivering humane, people centered policing.
“Our mandate is clear: to protect and serve all Ugandans with professionalism, discipline, and humanity,” he noted.
