The Christian leadership of St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church in Wandegeya has called on its congregation and well-wishers to contribute generously toward a church renovation and facelift project estimated at UGX 35 million. The goal is to transform the church into a modern house of worship.
The appeal was made on Sunday, 12th October 2025, by the Sabachristu of the church, Nalunga Teddy Nalongo, during celebrations marking St. Jude’s Day. The event also served as the official launch of the fundraising drive for the renovation project.
Nalunga paid tribute to the church’s founders, including Alozio Ssali, Abiliya Lawrence, and Rose Nakirya, among others, for dedicating their resources to the service of God.
The main mass was presided over by Fr. Ambrose Gombya, the Music Director at Kasana Catholic Diocese in Luwero District. He congratulated the Christians of the sub-parish, under Our Lady Help of the Sick, Mulago Catholic Parish, for reaching this important day. He encouraged them to use the opportunity to refocus their faith-based initiatives by supporting church projects and engaging in pastoral work within their communities.
The event was attended by several local politicians, many of whom made political statements. Among them was Dr. Roy Ssembogga, an aspiring Member of Parliament for Kawempe South Constituency, aligned with the NUP party. He urged residents to vote for him in the upcoming election, claiming he remains the best candidate despite not receiving the official party flag.
Asiimwe Acklean, the NRM party’s aspiring woman division councilor for Wandegeya Parish, said she is committed to representing the political interests and concerns of women and youth at the division urban council. She emphasized the need for practical solutions to improve the community.
Dr. Emma Byaruhanga, Vice Chairperson of the NRM in Wandegeya Parish, affirmed the party’s determination to recapture the division from the opposition, citing the positive achievements it has already made.
