MUKONO District : A total of 150 people received charitable support from the African Hospitality Initiative (AHI), a national Christian NGO, as part of its Mercy Day celebrations aimed at giving back to vulnerable communities.

The celebration took place at Kiwanga UMEA Primary School in Goma Subcounty, Mukono District.

The event began with a match-past parade led by the UPDF Brass Band and joined by AHI project beneficiaries, community leaders, and Christians from surrounding areas. The procession symbolized solidarity and appreciation for AHI’s 16 years of pastoral and charitable service in Uganda.

AHI Country Director, Apostle Dr. Isaac Luganda, told the more than 600 guests that the organisation uses a community mapping approach to identify vulnerable individuals. He noted that over 14,500 people nationwide have benefited from AHI programmes, including educational bursaries.

During the celebration, beneficiaries received hampers containing Holy Bibles, food items, mattresses, bursaries, household supplies, and scholastic materials.

Nakawa District NRM Women’s League Chairperson, Irene Kusiima who attended as a guest shared that she herself had once benefited from an AHI project in which more than 1,200 youth from Nakawa Division received skills training. Many of these young people have since gone on to start their own small businesses.

Kusiima commended Dr. Luganda and AHI for their ongoing efforts to empower youth with practical skills amid economic challenges. She added that government should recognize and support such initiatives, which contribute significantly to the fight against household and community poverty.
