The Territorial Police in Nakaseke District have launched an investigation into the attempted murder of Richard Mavuma, the Vice Chairperson LC5 of Nakaseke.

The attack occurred on the night of December 8, 2025, at around 10:30 p.m. in Katale Zone, Ssemuto Town Council, as Mavuma was returning to his home.

According to Sam Twiineamazima, the Savan area policing areas spokesperson, unknown assailants armed with pangas and sticks ambushed Mavuma at his gate, inflicting deep cuts and multiple injuries before fleeing the scene.

His vehicle was also vandalized during the assault. Authorities say the motive behind the violent attack is still unknown.

Police responded quickly and began investigations immediately.

Twiineamazima said the crime scene was documented and photographed, and canine units were deployed, though their work was hampered by interference from local residents.

He said efforts to trace possible surveillance footage from nearby cameras have so far yielded no results.

He stressed that investigations are ongoing,  and appealed to district leadership and the public for cooperation, urging anyone with relevant information to come forward and assist in identifying the attackers and ensuring they are brought to justice.

Probing death of 55-year-old

Relatedly, the Police in Nakasongola District are also investigating the gruesome killing of 55-year-old John Sserunkuma, who was attacked on Monday evening, (December 8, 2025), at around 8:30pm in Kakondi Village, Saasira Parish, Wabinyonyi Subcounty.

According to authorities, Sserunkuma was at a bath shelter near his home when an unknown assailant attacked him, inflicting severe injuries to his neck.

Despite attempting to seek help and make his way back to his house, he succumbed to his wounds shortly after the assault.

Twiineanazima noted thet police officers responded swiftly and documented the crime scene with assistance from the homicide team and scenes of crime officers.

He said the victim’s body was later taken to Nakasongola Health Center IV for a post-mortem.

He noted that no suspects or evidence have been identified so far, but investigators say inquiries are ongoing to track down the perpetrator.
