KAMPALA, Uganda (UGNEWSLINE) – The Anti-Corruption Court has ordered Kavuuma Ibrahim to refund Shs70 million to a victim of a property fraud scheme through which he and his alleged accomplices obtained USD 205,556, equivalent to about Shs740 million.
Kavuuma was sentenced to three and a half years in prison after being convicted over his role in the scheme.
The court further ordered the forfeiture of Shs8,004,700, USD 2,000 and a motor vehicle recovered from him during his arrest. The assets are to be applied towards compensating the victim.
Prosecution said the fraud occurred on July 15, 2025, when Kavuuma and other suspects, who remain at large, allegedly used falsified property documents to deceive the victim into believing they had legitimate ownership of the property.
The documents included a certificate of title, sale agreements and transfer forms, which were allegedly forged to facilitate the transaction.
The victim subsequently paid the suspects USD 205,556, according to the prosecution.
Kavuuma was arrested by the Inspectorate of Government and charged with forgery, uttering false documents, obtaining money by false pretence and money laundering.
The case highlights the financial risks associated with property transactions involving falsified ownership documents.
The remaining suspects are still at large, while the court’s refund and forfeiture orders provide for the recovery of assets towards compensating the victim.
