Police in Sironko District have dismissed allegations that a civilian was shot during the National Unity Platform (NUP) presidential candidate’s campaign in the Elgon region, clarifying that the injuries sustained resulted from resistance during arrest.

In a statement issued by Taitika Rogers, the Police Public Relations Officer for the Elgon Region, the incident occurred on the afternoon of January 4, 2026, in Buchibindi Village, Budadiri Town Council.

According to police, a Toyota Wish (registration number UBM 430K) driven by Lubura Hamza was being driven recklessly and forcefully overtook the candidate’s convoy.

Security personnel report that the driver ignored repeated orders to stop and nearly rammed into a security vehicle, prompting officers to pursue and intercept him.

Upon being stopped, Hamza allegedly resisted lawful arrest, leading to a scuffle during which he sustained a head injury.

He was subsequently taken to hospital for treatment. Police emphasize that no firearm was used in the incident and that claims he was shot are false and not supported by medical evidence.
