MUKONO, Uganda: Hundreds of eager parents gathered at the headquarters of the African Hospitality Initiative (AHI) in Mukono on January 25, 2026, to apply for one of 10,000 free education bursaries for vulnerable children.

The bursaries, covering all levels of education for the 2026 academic year, were funded by AHI’s strategic partnerships with international donors.
The event, held at AHI’s headquarters in Kiwanga Namanve, Goma Sub-County, saw many single mothers among the attendees, who signed up for the education opportunities offered. AHI officials facilitated connections with local schools for the beneficiaries.

In her address, Kusiima Irene, the Nakawa Division chairperson of the NRM Women’s League, praised AHI Country Director, Apostle Dr. Isaac Luganda, for successfully securing international funding for vulnerable children’s education. Kusiima, a former beneficiary of AHI’s skilling programs, shared how the training helped her open a restaurant in Ntinda, boosting her income. She noted that many youth and women from Nakawa had successfully launched their own businesses through AHI’s skills training initiatives.

Ochwo Alex, a parent of children in P2, P7, and S2, secured placements for his children at New Hope Wisdom Centre in Mukono and Bristol High School in Wakiso. Single mother Maganda Fatuma Namutebi, who faced numerous challenges after her husband abandoned her, was also grateful to secure a bursary for her son in P7.

Catherine Eva Ogwang from Kyanja in Nakawa received partial bursaries for all three of her children.
Dr. Luganda, who began the day with a mass for the attendees at his church, led the registration process for the over 5,000 applicants. An additional 5,000 bursaries remain available.

Dr. Luganda congratulated students who had excelled in the previous academic year, and welcomed the new batch of learners being placed in schools across Uganda. He revealed that since the launch of the bursary program 15 years ago, AHI has provided education to over 37,600 vulnerable children, earning recognition from both the Ministry of Education and Mukono District Education authorities.

Among the schools partnering with AHI to accommodate the new students are Bristol High School Matugga, St. Matia Mulumba Kisaasi, St. Mark High School in Kayunga, Agape Schools in Namutumba, Good Foundation Preparatory School in Namugongo, New Hope Wisdom Centre in Bukerere, and Parents Joy Primary School in Bugiri.
