The incident occurred on February 4, 2026, at about 8:30pm at Joy of Salvation Church polling station in Wesune Muto village, Nsanvu Parish. According to police, a group of assailants traveling in a silver Toyota Hiace (registration number UBR 783D) attacked polling staff who were transporting election materials in a grey Toyota Wish (registration number UBR 176Z).
The Savannah region policing area spokesperson, Sam Twineamazima said the attackers, armed with stones and pangas, reportedly assaulted polling officials, vandalized electoral materials, and made off with key items before fleeing the scene.
Police identified the victims as Charles Sseruwu, a driver who sustained minor injuries, and David Kilegeya and Lawrence Bukenya, who were seriously injured.
Other victims included electoral special polling constables.
Twineamazima said the injured were rushed to Makulubita Health Centre III for medical treatment.
Preliminary investigations have identified several suspects, including Ben Kamada and Mududda, among others.
Police says the suspected getaway vehicle, a Toyota Hiace, was later impounded and towed to Luwero Central Police Station.
Twineamazima noted that a search of the vehicle led to the recovery of several exhibits, including a driver’s license in the name of Julius Sempabuke, a national ID belonging to Flavia Nantongo, an empty five-liter fuel jerrican, a matchbox, marijuana, cushions and mats, and one original declaration of results form from Kasizi Primary School.
Police also recovered official National Unity Platform (NUP) agent tags bearing the names of Doreen Mirembe Nakabuye and Eng. Alex Kiselo, Chairperson of Makulubita Sub-county, as well as related results documents and photographs.
However, police says several critical items remain missing, including four BVVK machines and three transparent ballot boxes containing cast ballots.
Police said the crime scene was documented and will be reconstructed.
Twineamazima said investigations are ongoing to arrest all suspects, recover the stolen electoral materials, and safeguard the integrity of the electoral process.
