February 14, is known to be a lovers day, as loved ones and families share gifts, to strengthen and celebrate their bond, but in Kyankwazi district it was all tears after a couple was murdered in cold blood by unknown assailants.
The incident happened in Kizungu Cell, Ntunda Town Council.
According to police reports, the District Police Commander Kyankwanzi received a phone call in the morning from one Ashiraf Mulawa a resident of Kizungu cell informing him of the murder of his neighbours.
The DPC dispatched a team with Scene of crime officer who responded to the scene.
The area police spokesperson, Lameck Kigozi reported that it was at around 02:30am in the morning when unknown people raided the home of Awali Sentongo 42, a peasant and resident of Kizungu cell in Ntunda subcounty.
“The attackers are suspected to have been armed with a sharp object probably a panga which they used to cut and stab to death their victims,” Kigozi said in his statement.
He said the late Sentongo was cut several times on the head and also had a stab wound in the neck which killed him instantly.
The assailants are said to have turned on the wife Ayebare Doreen whom they also stabbed in the ribs.
Police says she attempted to flee and inform her relatives who stay about 80 meters from their home but she never made it to her destination, as she fell down and died due to the deep stab wound she sustained in the attack.
The couple had two children in their house the eldest being 4 years who survived the attack.
The attackers fled the seen unidentified and their motive is yet to be established.
Police has appealed to residents in Ntunda town council to remain calm and also cooperate with security in investigations.
He urged those with information of evidential value in the matter to share it with police, saying that it will be treated with the greatest confidentiality it deserves.
