CRIME: Two people have been attacked and lynched by an angry mob suspected to be cannibals locally known as “Abasezi” in the Luganda local dialect.
The suspects were identified as one Ssemasaka, and Hakiza Damaseni both male adults of Rwandan origin and residents of Kiryanongo village, Bananywa subcounty Kyankwanzi district.
The incident followed after one Vensi, a known prostitute and a resident of Nakabugo village in the same sub county went missing village.
According to police reports, she went missing for some time not until the evening of March 19, 2026, when a neighbour of Ssemasaka felt a suspicious smell coming from his house.
The neighbour is said to have informed other people in the village who agreed to conducting an impromptu search in the house where the unusual smell was coming from.
The police spokesperson for the Wamala Policing region. Lameck Kigozi, said when they entered the house, a human body parked in a sack with the right leg protruding out, and a chopped human flesh in a saucepan were allegedly found.
“This scene incensed the villagers, they got outraged and lynched the two occupants of the dwelling house,” he added.
He said the chairman of Kiryanongo village reported the incident to Bananya subcounty police station.
Kigozi said the scene was visited by police under the command of Kyankwanzi DPC.
He noted that bodies of the deceased were taken to Ntwetwe Health Centre Four.
He stressed that inquiries into the case of murder and mob justice are on going.
“We appeal to the public to desist from acts of mob action on suspected criminals,” he added.
