Police along Jinja Road have arrested three suspects accused of orchestrating a daring impersonation scheme in which they allegedly posed as Abbas Byakagaba, the Inspector General of Police, to defraud unsuspecting victims.
The suspects, identified as Ariho Abubakar Uthmaan, Bukenya Fayim, and Kaweesi Dalton, were apprehended on March 24, 2026, following intelligence reports linking them to fraudulent social media accounts.
According, to the Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson, Racheal Kawala, the trio allegedly used these platforms to impersonate the police chief, targeting both serving officers and members of the public in a calculated bid to extort money.
According to police, a case of personation has since been registered. Detectives conducted a search at premises linked to the suspects, where they reportedly recovered electronic devices and documents believed to have been instrumental in carrying out the scheme.
Investigations remain ongoing as authorities work to establish the full scope of the operation and identify any additional victims or accomplices.
