Police in Mabira, Buikwe District, are investigating a fatal road crash that claimed the lives of two women and left three others injured after a suspected hit-and-run incident along the Jinja–Kampala highway.
According to traffic authorities, the accident occurred at approximately 9:10pm on April 7, 2026, at Buwola in Mabira Forest.
The crash involved a white Toyota Harrier, registration number UBE 827M, driven by 43-year-old Isabirye Absolom, a resident of Entebbe, and a white Isuzu ELF truck, registration number UBQ 353D, whose driver fled the scene immediately after the collision.
Preliminary findings indicate that both vehicles were traveling in the same direction from Jinja towards Kampala when the Isuzu ELF reportedly rammed into the rear of the Toyota Harrier.
The impact forced the Harrier off the road and into a water channel, where it overturned.
Two female passengers in the Harrier died on the spot.
The deceased have been identified as Hadijah Mutesi, a resident of Gayaza in Wakiso District, and Annet Kyokusima, a resident of Lubowa in Wakiso District.
Three other occupants of the Harrier sustained injuries, including the driver, Absolom Isabirye, along with passengers Sumaya Nabakooza, 34, of Namungona in Rubaga Division, and Annet Nakyega of Makindye Division, Kampala.
The injured were rushed to Kawolo Hospital for treatment, while the bodies of the deceased were also taken to the same facility for postmortem examination.
Both vehicles involved in the crash have since been towed to Mabira Police Station pending inspection by the Inspector of Vehicles.
Police have launched a manhunt for the driver of the Isuzu ELF, who remains at large, as investigations into the circumstances surrounding the crash continue.
