An intelligence-led police operation in Entebbe has led to the recovery of an illegal firearm and the arrest of 16 suspects, following growing public concern over the presence of a weapon in the community.
The coordinated crackdown, carried out on April 11, 2026, swept through the areas of Wamala, Buzzi, Lutaba, and Ssisa Village in Wakiso District.
Officers focused on houses under construction in Hossana Estate and Jomayi Estate, as well as several gambling hotspots believed to harbor criminal elements.
Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson, Rachael Kawaka said the operation was prompted by reports from residents about a man allegedly in possession of an illegal gun, sparking fear and tension in the area.
Acting on intelligence gathered, officers moved in, detaining multiple suspects for questioning.
A breakthrough came when one of the suspects, identified as Ronald Segujja, reportedly cooperated with investigators and led them to the hidden weapon.
The pistol has since been recovered and secured as key evidence in the ongoing investigation.
All 16 suspects remain in custody and are expected to be arraigned in court as inquiries continue into the circumstances surrounding the firearm and any potential criminal networks.
Kawala praised the public for providing information that aided the operation, reiterating their commitment to cracking down on illegal weapons and ensuring community safety.
