Police in Mbale City Northern Division are investigating a case of aggravated robbery in which six students of Nkoma Secondary School allegedly attacked and robbed a fellow student from Mbale Progressive Secondary School in a violent street assault that has since sparked concern in the area.
According to the area police spokesperson, Rogers Taitika, the incident occurred on 14 April 14,  2026 at about 5:00pm along Nabuyonga Rise in Kichafu Cell, Namakwekwe Ward, while both the victim and the suspects were reportedly returning home from school as day scholars.

Suspects attacking fellow students in broad day light.

The victim, identified as Siraj Buyinza, a 20-year-old Senior Four student residing in Buyonjo Cell, Nkoma Ward, told police he was ambushed by a group of fellow students who were armed with a knife. During the attack, he was assaulted and robbed of his Infinix Smart 6 smartphone together with UGX 20,000 in cash.

Following investigations and a report made at Nkoma Police Station, officers moved in and arrested the suspects, all students of Nkoma Secondary School. Those taken into custody have been identified as Abudu Kadiru of S.2F, John Mwesigwa of S.2C, James Nabigwa Opolot of S.2F, Patrick Weboya of S.2B, Edrine Magomu of S.2B, and Brian Wadonyi of S.2F.

Police also recovered a knife believed to have been used in the attack, while a video clip allegedly capturing the incident, recorded by a passerby, has been circulating on social media and is now part of the ongoing investigation.
Authorities say the victim was medically examined and documented using a Police Form 3 as part of standard procedure, while a crime scene team visited and documented the area where the robbery took place.
Police say inquiries into the aggravated robbery remain ongoing as they work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the attack.
