Head teacher arrested over 17-year-old murder

Police in Matuga are investigating a chilling murder case involving a 17-year-old boy whose body was discovered under suspicious circumstances in Wakiso District, in what has now drawn in a nearby nursery and primary school and led to the arrest of a head teacher.
The deceased, identified as Austine, a teenage milk hawker and resident of Nalusuga Village in Kasangati Town Council, was last seen alive on 9 May 2026 when he left home for what was expected to be a routine day of work in Buwambo Trading Centre. He never returned.
Hours later, his body was found in a building under construction in Najjo Zone, Kanywamusulo Cell, Gombe Division. What initially appeared to be a tragic isolated killing quickly escalated into a more complex investigation after a police canine unit was deployed to the scene.
According to preliminary findings, a sniffer dog followed a trail from the crime scene into the compound of Flourish Day Care and Nursery School. The animal reportedly moved through the premises, entered a classroom used by staff accommodation, and paused inside a room where the school askari is said to sleep. The trail then continued out of the school and ended along the Buwambo–Katadde main road, raising further questions about the victim’s final movements and possible connections to the institution.
Inside the school, investigators recovered items suspected to be stained with blood from both a baby class and a Primary Two classroom, deepening concerns about what may have transpired in the hours surrounding the boy’s death.
The head teacher of Flourish Day Care and Nursery School, identified as Muganga Moses, has since been taken into police custody to assist with ongoing investigations. Authorities say they are pursuing additional leads and have not ruled out the involvement of other suspects.
Forensic teams continue to piece together a timeline as detectives work to determine whether the school premises played any role in the crime or merely became an unexpected link in a trail that has left a community searching for answers and a family mourning a life cut abruptly short.
