Kampala Metropolitan Police have arrested more than 30 suspects during separate disruptive operations targeting criminal hideouts in Entebbe and Mukono districts.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the operations were aimed at dismantling criminal networks linked to robbery, burglary and drug abuse.
In Entebbe Division, police carried out a night operation on May 19 in the areas of Bendegere, Kasenyi and Nakiwogo, leading to the arrest of 31 suspects.
Police said the suspects were found in possession of suspected narcotic substances and other exhibits believed to be connected to criminal activity
“All the suspects are currently detained at Entebbe Police Station pending prosecution,” Owoyesigyire said.
In a separate operation conducted on May 18 in Jojo, Sonde and Misindye in Goma Division, Mukono District, police arrested seven more suspects from what authorities described as known criminal black spots.
The suspects were later charged and detained at Goma Police Station under Mukono Central Police Station as investigations continue.
Police say the operations form part of ongoing efforts to eliminate criminal gangs and improve public safety within the Kampala Metropolitan area.
“Kampala Metropolitan Police remains committed to conducting sustained disruptive operations aimed at eliminating criminal elements and enhancing the safety and security of the public,” Owoyesigyire added.
Security agencies have recently intensified crackdowns on urban crime, particularly targeting areas suspected to be harboring gangs involved in theft, drug abuse and violent attacks.
