Annet Namakula The headteacher of Lion of Judah Elementary School in Kayunga district has been apprehended, due to allegations of her involvement in malpractice related to the Primary Leaving Examination (PLE).

This incident unfolded on November 6, 2024, at 10:20 AM at the school situated in Kyampisi village, Kayunga Sub-County.

Reports indicate that around 10:00 am that same day, the District Internal Security Officer (DISO) for Kayunga was tipped off about potential examination misconduct occurring at the school.

Acting swiftly on this information, the DISO arrived at the school grounds.

According to Hellen Butoto, the spokesperson for the Ssezibwa Regional Police, during the DISO’s inspection, three teachers were reportedly found engaged in solving mathematics problems, which were believed to be the answers for the 2024 Uganda National Examination Board PLE Mathematics examination.

“The three teachers had reportedly prepared answer sheets for both Section A and Section B of the examination. The DISO retrieved these answer sheets and took them to the headteacher’s office for comparison with the UNEB examination papers to verify if the answers matched the questions,” she noted.

She observed that the DISO had asked the three teachers to accompany him to the headteacher’s office, but they vanished before they could get there.

The headteacher, Namakula, recognized the three teachers as Rodgers Kyondo, Samuel Ngobi, and Julius Orune, all of whom are employed at Lion of Judah Elementary School. Butoto pointed out that when the answer sheets were compared, they matched the UNEB Mathematics exam questions perfectly and in the correct order.

She mentioned that the headteacher was taken into custody to aid in the ongoing investigation, and efforts are being made to locate the three teachers who are under suspicion.

“Additionally, UNEB staff assigned to Lion of Judah Elementary School have been summoned to provide statements as part of the inquiry,” he added.
