The National Resistance Movement (NRM) leaders in Bujumba Sub-county have intensified grassroots mobilization efforts on Bunyama Island as they rally support for the party’s flag bearer, Idah Nabayiga, ahead of the June 24 Kalangala District Woman Member of Parliament by-election.
The mobilization drive, led by Bujumba Sub-county NRM Chairman John Mike Yiga, saw party leaders and local structures traverse Kagoonya, Kivunza, Bunyama and Kisujju villages, engaging residents and canvassing votes for the ruling party candidate.
Speaking during the mobilisation drive on Sunday, Yiga said the NRM enjoys strong support in the area and expressed confidence that voters would once again back the party at the polls.
He thanked residents of Kagoonya and Kivunza for their support during previous elections and said local communities had pledged to deliver an even bigger victory for Nabayiga.
“Our district experienced a visible gap in development and direct government lobbying when the electorate chose the opposition,” Yiga Ssalongo said. “We are determined to work tirelessly to ensure Hon. Idah Nabayiga returns to Parliament because she has a proven record of lobbying for services and development projects that benefit the people of Kalangala.”
He added that Nabayiga’s previous tenure as Woman MP demonstrated her ability to advocate for infrastructure improvements and community needs, making her the most suitable candidate to represent the district.
The NRM team is expected to continue its door-to-door campaign across Bunyama Parish, with mobilization activities scheduled in Rwabaswa, Kasiisa, Kikuyege and Buyiiki villages.
Party officials said the sustained grassroots engagement is aimed at consolidating support across the island communities and ensuring a decisive victory for the NRM candidate in the forthcoming by-election.
