COURT (UGNEWSLINE) – Two men from Iganga District have been jailed for impersonating businessman Hajji Hamis Kiggundu on TikTok in a scheme that allegedly defrauded members of the public of millions of shillings.
Ntambi Emmanuel, 23, a carpenter from Bulubandi Village, and Munage Asuman, a welder from Bugabwe Mandera B Zone in Nakigo Sub-county, were convicted after admitting to creating fake social media accounts in the businessman’s name.
Buganda Road Court Magistrate Winnie Nankya sentenced Ntambi to seven months in prison and Munage to six months after they pleaded guilty to personation charges.
Prosecution told court that the two, together with other suspects who are still at large, opened TikTok accounts through which they presented themselves as Hajji Kiggundu and officials of his Ham Group of Companies.
They allegedly used the fake identities to attract people with promises of financial opportunities before obtaining money from them.
The offences were committed between January and March 2026 in Kampala and Iganga District, where the accused admitted creating the accounts with the intention of defrauding the public.
While passing sentence, Magistrate Nankya warned the convicts against using social media fraud as a means of earning a living and advised them to find legitimate employment.
She warned that if they return to court for similar offences, they could face the maximum sentence of three years in prison.
The magistrate further expressed frustration over the repeated cases of social media fraud involving suspects from Iganga District, saying court was tired of handling similar files.
