Police in central Uganda are investigating the death of a 15-year-old school girl whose body was recovered from a privately owned dam in Kiboga District following a disagreement at home, authorities said.
The deceased was identified as Priscilla Nanyonjo, a Senior Three student at Bukomero Secondary School and the daughter of Nalugwa Fatuma.

The incident occurred on July 14, 2026 in Temanakali Village, Bukomero Sub-county.
According to Wamala Regional Police spokesperson, Lawrence Kigozi, the events began at about 6:00am when the girl’s mother asked whether she was preparing to go to school.

Police said the teenager, who had reportedly washed her school uniform, left the family home after the exchange.
Investigators said she crossed to a neighbouring property where there is a dam.

Her mother followed shortly afterward but found the girl’s shoes on the shore before raising an alarm that drew local residents and village leaders to the scene.
Police officers responded after receiving a report, documented the scene, interviewed witnesses and recovered the shoes.

The body was later retrieved from the approximately nine-foot-deep dam and formally identified as that of Nanyonjo Priscilla.
A post-mortem examination was conducted at the scene before the body was released to relatives for burial, police said.
Authorities stated that the teenager had no known history of mental illness. Police have not determined the circumstances surrounding her death and said investigations remain ongoing.
The Wamala Regional Police urged owners of dams and other water reservoirs to ensure they are properly secured to reduce the risk of accidents and unauthorized access.
If you or someone you know is experiencing thoughts of self-harm or emotional distress, seeking support from trusted family members, community leaders, healthcare professionals, or a local crisis support service can make a difference.
