The Catholic faithful in Kabale Diocese have welcomed a familiar son with renewed hope following the appointment of Rev. Fr. Gubazire Bosco Bonaventure, M.Afr., as their new bishop. After more than two decades of missionary service, academic leadership and priestly formation across several continents, Bishop-elect Gubazire returns home carrying a wealth of experience shaped by faith, scholarship and a lifelong commitment to the Gospel.
Ordained to the priesthood on 10 August 2003, Fr. Gubazire belongs to the Society of Missionaries of Africa, widely known as the White Fathers.
His vocation has taken him far beyond Uganda’s borders, serving communities in France, offered Mozambique, Malawi, the Philippines and Ghana.
Along the way, he has embraced the missionary spirit of the congregation, combining pastoral ministry with education and the promotion of human dignity.
His passion for learning has been equally remarkable. Holding a doctorate in Philosophy, Fr. Gubazire currently serves as a lecturer and formator at Spiritan University College in Ejisu, Ghana.
There, he has inspired future priests through teaching philosophy and the social sciences while accompanying seminarians in their spiritual and intellectual formation.
His academic work reflects a deep concern for ethical leadership, the richness of communitarian cultures, classical theism and responsible stewardship of the environment, subjects that continue to shape his vision of faith in today’s world.
For many in Kabale Diocese, his appointment represents more than a change in leadership. It is the homecoming of a priest whose ministry has been enriched by diverse cultures, global missionary encounters and years of forming future Church leaders.
Those experiences are expected to strengthen the diocese as it responds to the pastoral and social challenges of the present age.
As Bishop-elect Bosco Gubazire prepares to begin this new chapter of service, the faithful of Kabale look ahead with optimism, praying that his missionary zeal, intellectual depth and pastoral heart will guide the diocese into a future marked by unity, faith and hope.
