The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Lino Anguzu, has pledged to strengthen the competence of public prosecutors through technical training in ICT laws, cybercrime investigations, digital evidence and prosecution, among other areas, to enhance their performance.

Anguzu made the remarks on August 18, 2026, in a speech read by the Principal Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), Andrew Odiit, during the official opening of a three-day training programme for prosecutors supported by the National Information Technology Authority-Uganda (NITA-U) through its consultant, Empower Consult, at Esella Country Hotel in Najeera, Kira Municipality, Wakiso District.

The training seeks to strengthen prosecutorial competence in a criminal justice environment where technology increasingly shapes both the commission of crimes and the evidence upon which prosecutions depend.

Anguzu urged participants to make full use of the programme by being punctual, attending all sessions consistently and actively participating in every session, emphasising the importance of the training to contemporary prosecutorial practice.

Caroline Mugisha Akello, Director of Regulations and Legal Services at NITA-Uganda, thanked the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) for collaborating in the training and other aspects of its partnership with NITA-Uganda.

She encouraged prosecutors to visit the NITA-Uganda website to understand its role and access relevant legislation to enhance their knowledge of cyber-related crimes.

The training focuses on lawful access to digital information, forensic investigations, the preservation and presentation of digital evidence, charge drafting, trial advocacy, the use of expert witnesses and cross-border cooperation.

As technology continues to shape both crime and criminal evidence, strengthening prosecutors’ digital competence is essential to effective and modern criminal justice delivery, he observed.
