The Officer in Charge of Traffic at Kajjansi Police Station, ASP Samuel Mujuni, has urged motorists, pedestrians and other road users to exercise greater caution on the roads to reduce preventable accidents.
Mujuni made the remarks during a joint road safety awareness and traffic management campaign organised by the Club Dream Innovators Buddy Group along the Entebbe Road corridor, covering the Kajjansi and Kitende stretch.
The campaign aimed to sensitise motorists and other road users on the importance of observing road safety regulations and adopting responsible road-use practices.
Mujuni commended the Rotary Club of Kitende Breeze for partnering in the initiative, noting that enforcement alone cannot eliminate road crashes.
He said community involvement through awareness campaigns in schools, churches, taxi parks and boda boda stages is essential in changing road user behaviour and saving lives. He added that support in providing reflectors and road safety education would go a long way in reducing accidents.
The traffic chief emphasised that most road crashes are caused by human behaviour rather than the roads themselves. He urged motorists to avoid reckless overtaking, observe speed limits, wear seatbelts, use helmets, refrain from drinking and driving, and respect the rights of pedestrians.
He further noted that while police have intensified traffic operations, personal discipline among road users remains the most effective way of preventing accidents.
Club Dream Innovators Buddy Group chief mobiliser Annet Mary Nanziri, popularly known as Nana Malaika, said the campaign was organised in response to the increasing number of road crashes along the Entebbe Road corridor.
She revealed that members distributed more than 250 road safety flyers carrying educational messages and information encouraging members of the public to join the Rotary movement in supporting vulnerable communities.
Nanziri also noted that the group purchased over 284 kits for the Rotary Cancer Run as part of its contribution to community health initiatives.
She thanked the Uganda Police Force and other road safety stakeholders for supporting the life-saving campaign and encouraged more people to join the Rotary Club of Kitende Breeze to strengthen efforts aimed at improving the welfare of vulnerable communities in the area.
