KAMPALA, Uganda — “I was so relieved, I couldn’t stop smiling at my desk,” recalls Angella Kagimu Nakayiza, a technical engineer at Smart Technical Services residing in Ntinda. She was working in her laboratory when she received a call from Sanyu FM’s Lunch with Corey declaring her a voucher winner. “Honestly, I was tight on cash that day, so it came at the perfect moment. As a mother with a young baby, every extra bit helps. Walking in and grabbing essential baby supplies knowing UGX 40,000 was taken off my bill was such a welcome boost.”

Angella’s experience reflects a growing reality across Kampala’s retail landscape, where smart consumers are turning everyday supermarket runs into practical financial breathing rooms. Weeks after Carrefour Uganda launched its month-long 4th Anniversary celebrations, the ongoing campaign is proving that the true metric of success lies in these grounded customer wins. While the anniversary rollout features up to 50% discounts, daily UGX 40,000 vouchers via Sanyu FM, and a 4 million point jackpot, the rewards are serving a far deeper purpose through easing household budgets and supporting local livelihoods.

That practical value is equally clear for Ssegawa James, who joined the program a year ago after watching a colleague redeem points. “I downloaded the app in 2025, and now I shop three to four times a week,” Ssegawa shares. “I use my points to clear everyday items like bread, yogurt for the kids, sugar, and juice. By covering those home expenses with points, I can redirect my cash to buy stock and boost my small retail business. When you see the tangible value, you never forget to scan.”

This pattern of sustained customer impact echoes across diverse shopper segments. Umaru Ssenyonjo, a Makindye resident working in public relations for an orphanage, notes that brand-led givebacks build long term trust.

“Whereas we can afford to shop on a regular basis, getting a give back like this gives you more energy to keep coming back,” Umaru explains. “I have young ones at home, so winning this voucher allowed me to pick up extra items for them without stretching my budget.”

Meanwhile, market vendor Annet, who operates a perfume shop and buys for her family of four, found herself winning for a second consecutive year. “I shop about twice a month for my four children and family. Winning last year was amazing, but winning again this year was pure joy,” she says.

Even relative newcomers like civil engineering lab technician Wery Allan, who downloaded the app after a colleague’s recommendation, are discovering the long term perks. “I used to shop without knowing much about the loyalty benefits,” Allan admits. “Now I advise everyone to download the app and scan on every purchase. The discounts and point accumulations are real.”

As Carrefour Supermarket Uganda continues its anniversary rollout, these customer experiences highlight a basic retail truth: when an enterprise builds tools that return real money to the consumer’s pocket, loyalty stops being a marketing target and becomes a genuine, shared win.
