Newly elected Local Council One (LC1) leaders in Wandegeya Parish, Kawempe Division, have pledged to promote inclusive development, peace and accountable leadership while strengthening collaboration with residents and other stakeholders.
The leaders made the commitment on Thursday, September 3, 2026, during the official swearing-in ceremony for newly elected LC1 and LC2 leaders at the Kawempe Division headquarters.
The ceremony was presided over by Kawempe Division Town Clerk Geoffrey Rwakabare, with more than 100 local leaders taking the oath of office before receiving official office stamps.
The swearing-in of some leaders in Wandegeya Parish had earlier been delayed following complaints of alleged electoral malpractice that were referred to the Electoral Commission.
Following the controversy, the affected leaders sought clarification from the Electoral Commission, which subsequently wrote to the Kawempe Division Town Clerk clearing three of the four village councils in Wandegeya Parish to proceed with the swearing-in.
Wandegeya Parish LC2 Chairperson Musa Mwanje and Women Council leader Harriet Namubiru led efforts to have the affected councils cleared. The three zones cleared are Kimwanyi, led by Hajji Hassan Wasswa Sempala; Busia, led by Isooba Sammeul; and Katale, led by Simon Sentamu Kirabo.
