KAMPALA Uganda (UGNEWSLINE) – Action for Fundamental Change and Development (AFFCAD), a non-governmental organisation that empowers young people, has partnered with the Digital Solar Market platform to create employment opportunities for youth in Uganda’s growing renewable energy sector.
Speaking at the launch of the partnership AFFCAD Social Enterprise Director Tazan Jaffar Nyombi , The partnership will link young people trained under AFFCAD’s livelihood programme with employment opportunities in solar installation and repair. The initiative is expected to help graduates secure jobs while connecting them to Uganda’s expanding clean energy industry through the newly launched digital platform.
“This partnership bridges the gap between skills and employment. By connecting trained young people to opportunities in the solar sector, we are not only creating jobs but also supporting Uganda’s transition to clean, affordable and sustainable energy,” Nyombi said
He said that the organisation has been equipping young people with practical skills in solar installation and maintenance as part of its livelihood programme. They noted that partnering with the Digital Solar Market provides a reliable avenue for trained youth to access job placements, earn sustainable incomes, and build long-term careers in the renewable energy sector.
Nyombi added that the collaboration is particularly aimed at benefiting young people from low-income urban communities in Kampala and Jinja, where the organisation has been implementing skills development programmes. The organisation believes that improved access to employment will enhance livelihoods while promoting economic independence among young people.
Beyond job creation, the partnership is also expected to contribute to Uganda’s transition to clean energy. AFFCAD says Uganda’s abundant sunshine presents an opportunity to expand the use of solar power as a reliable and sustainable alternative to conventional electricity, especially in areas with limited or unreliable power supply.
He noted that many communities across the country continue to experience electricity shortages or lack access to the national grid. It believes wider adoption of solar technology can help bridge the energy gap while supporting climate action and reducing dependence on traditional energy sources.
AFFCAD expressed optimism that its collaboration with the Digital Solar Market will not only improve employment prospects for young people but also accelerate the adoption of renewable energy solutions, contributing to sustainable development and climate resilience in Uganda.
