KAMPALA– The Vice President of Uganda, Retired Major Jessica Rose Alupo Epel, has officially picked up nomination forms to contest for the Woman MP seat of Katakwi District during the forthcoming NRM Party Primaries.

“I have already expressed my interests to contest as Woman MP for Katakwi district in the NRM Primaries,” Alupo told Journalists shortly after being cleared by the Party Electoral Commission Chairperson Dr. Tanga Odoi in the presence of NRM Secretary General Richard Tadwong and other party officials in Kampala.

The NRM party on Monday begun registering candidates seeking to represent various constituencies in the 2026 parliamentary elections.

Alupo thanked the NRM EC and the party Secretariat for managing the exercise in an orderly manner.

“I’m extremely very hopeful that the NRM primaries will be free and fair bearing in mind that the NRM EC and the Secretariat have started well on time making sure that candidates have time to continue interacting and ensuring the ground is leveled for the election day,” the vice president said.

She underscored the four principals of NRM: nationalism, pan-africanism, socio-economic transformation and democracy arguing that, that’s what many of them need to continue serving and shaping the future of the NRM party and country at lalarge.

The retired Major encouraged all NRM candidates who wish to contest, to come freely and express their interests because the process is clear, simple, and fast

For peace to prevail, Alupo urged the leadership of NRM party, especially the EC and Secretariat, to be on standby to resolve any conflicts and animosity that may arise in some areas during the election process.

She called upon candidates and their supporters to abide by the rules and regulations governing the election process to avoid any form pressure and animosity created by candidates in some areas.

She warned against unnecessary interference with the laws, stressing that they are comprehensive and do not require further alterations.
