KAMPALA– The Titular Head of Islam in Uganda, Dr. Prince Kassim Nakibinge Kakungulu, has praised President Yoweri Museveni for demonstrating statesmanship by issuing a public apology to both Ugandans and the Buganda Kingdom for any wrongs committed by his administration. However, Dr. Nakibinge simultaneously challenged the president to “walk the talk” of reconciliation by unconditionally releasing all political prisoners and detainees, and by initiating inclusive, sober dialogue with the opposition as a critical step toward national healing and unity.

Dr. Nakibinge made the remarks on Eid Al Adhuha, while hosting guests for a luncheon at his residence in Kibuli, following prayers at Kibuli Mosque.

Dr. Nakibinge further urged President Museveni, in his capacity as Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces, to take firm action to end the abduction, torture, and unlawful detention of political opponents.

He emphasized that such actions violate the rights of Ugandan citizens, who must be free to participate in the political and civic life of their country without fear or intimidation.

He cited the recent Kawempe North by-election, which was marred by unprecedented violence perpetrated by security forces, describing such conduct as unacceptable in a modern and democratic society.

Additionally, Dr. Nakibinge called on the president to urgently ensure access to proper medical treatment for Eddie Mutwe, the head of security for National Unity Platform (NUP) leader Bobi Wine. He warned that continued detention in a medically unfit environment not only endangers lives but also undermines the country’s democratic values and civic space.

The super supreme mufti sheikh Muhammad Galabuuzi earlier at Kibuli mosque urged all citizens to compete for all elective political posts across board such that they can bargain for their national cake within the power circles as opposed to lamenting.

“We encourage all citizens especially our sisters and brothers the Muslims to go out and compete for all political elective posts across board such that you can bargain for rights and freedoms while within the power circles of government and the time is now’ noted Galabuuzi.
