Police in the Savannah Region have recovered 19 head of cattle stolen in a daring overnight raid on a kraal in Muhangazima Village, Ngoma Sub-county, Nakaseke District.
The livestock, belonging to Nathan Tumwiine, were stolen on the night of January 19, 2026. The theft was reported at Ngoma Town Council Police Station, triggering a swift and coordinated investigation.
According to the area police spokesman, Sam Twineamazima, following crucial leads and intensive tracking, officers traced the stolen cattle to a farm in Gomero Zone, Ngoma West Ward, where all 19 animals were successfully recovered.
He said two suspects, Gumisiriza Moses (51) and Rwakyankwanzi Sam, were arrested and are currently in police custody to assist with ongoing investigations.
A third suspect, businessman identified as Robert Ssebugwawo, was initially detained after he was found in possession of three of the stolen cattle at Ngoma Cattle Market. Police say his arrest provided a key breakthrough that helped investigators track down the main suspects.
Twineamazima said further inquiries uncovered seven additional cattle believed to have been stolen from other farmers.
Four of the animals have since been formally handed over to Edward Isanga, while three belonging to Tandeka remain at Ngoma Police Station pending verification and official handover.
Police praised members of the community for providing timely information that proved critical to the operation’s success. Authorities are urging livestock owners to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station as investigations continue.
