AMOLATAR District- Dr. Alice Akello Opio, Commissioner in charge of Northern Uganda in the Office of the President, has urged the people of Amolatar and Uganda at large to vote wisely in the 2026 general election.
She noted that over the years, the NRM government has achieved significant progress in infrastructure development, education, and healthcare.

Dr. Akello made these remarks during an interview with our reporter at Amolatar Secondary School playground, where His Excellency Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has arrived this afternoon to address the crowd
She encouraged Ugandans especially the youth to actively participate in government programs aimed at alleviating poverty, emphasizing that “the future belongs to them.”

“We need to vote wisely. The economy of this nation has grown tremendously. When you travel through the villages in Amolatar District, you can see they are completely different from what they were about 20 years ago. Today, you cannot find houses made of grass in these villages. This shows we have gained a lot from this government,” she said.
Her message to the people was clear: “As the theme is protecting the gain, we must vote wisely. We don’t need to vote unwisely because if we don’t vote well, we are not protecting our gains.”
Dr. Akello also emphasized the importance of peace during the campaign period. She urged everyone to promote messages of peace and love, which she said will help the campaign run smoothly. “Politics of division is not good. We are one people; Uganda is bigger than us,” she added.
She further addressed the mindset of some people that has contributed to poverty, particularly among young people. “Young people should work. The attitude towards work today is poor. Even the Bible says, ‘God will bless the works of your hands.’ If you don’t work, what is God going to bless? You need to start something, however small. Young people should not despise work; any work will progress you. Whatever God puts in your hands, work seriously and let Him bless the work of your hands,” she advised.
Dr. Akello also highlighted that the most important benefit from this government has been peace, which has allowed the population to grow and people to move freely at night something that was not possible in the past.
Residents of Amolatar continue to flock to the venue to hear President Museveni’s address.
Among the key figures already present are the Speaker of Parliament, Anita Annet Among, cultural leaders, religious leaders, and others.
From Amolatar, His Excellency will conclude the day with another rally in Dokolo District.
