KATAKWI: The Vice President Maj. (Rtd) Jessica Alupo has this morning been duly nominated to contest for the Katakwi district Woman Member of Parliament, on the National Resistance Movement ticket.

The VP was duly nominated by the Katakwi district Returning Officer Stephen Makubuya at the Electoral Commission offices this morning today October 22, 2025.

The Electoral Commission appointed Wednesday 22nd and Thursday 23rd October 2025 as the dates for nomination of candidates for Parliamentary Elections 2026.

The nominations are being conducted at the respective district/city headquarters across the country, beginning at 9am and ending at 5pm on each of the appointed dates.

The candidates are contesting for a total of 519 elective positions including 353 directly-elected MPs, 146 district and city woman representatives, and 20 seats for special interest groups (Older Persons, Persons with Disabilities, Workers, and Youths)

An aspirant for Member of Parliament shall be a citizen of Uganda and a registered voter. The nomination of a candidate shall be made by two registered voters appearing in person, who shall tender the following documents to the Returning Officer:

While addressing Journalists shortly after nomination, the VP Alupo reaffirmed her commitment to women and youth empowerment, education for children, and highlighted government projects in Teso, including ferries, a public university, and investments in health, education, and security.

She also announced that President Museveni will visit Napak on October 30 and Katakwi on November 1.

She further pledged to use her position to lobby for support to help improve the livelihoods of her people using the NRM party manifesto.

She said among issues to be addressed is poverty in women, youth and men using the available existing programmes like the GROW fund for women, women fund, youth livelihood, parish development model, and the Emyooga fund which are geared at poverty eradication.

She also pledged to continue implementing her programmes in the sectors of health, education, roads infrastructure and security among others.

Alupo who was full of joy after successful nominations and asked the people of Katakwi to remain peaceful during this campaign period so that no life is lost because of politics.

She called on her mobilisers to embark on grassroot mobilization, door to door to mobiliser of votes for herself and His excellency president Yoweri Museveni Kaguta who is also the NRM presidential candidate 2026.

The vice president later addressed supporters at Boma Grounds which ceremony was graced by Royal Highness the Emorimor papa Iteso Paul Sande Emolot, the NRM party vice chairperson Eastern region David Echodu Calvin and the prince of Buganda Joseph Ndaula and his wife.

Others included RDC Katakwi Stephen Ilemukorit Okure, the District chairperson Geoffrey Omolo, Security chiefs led by the Division Commander Wilberforce Sserunkuma and the Katakwi district NRM chairperson John Robert Okiror among others.

Paul Sande Emolot, the royal highness of Iteso cultural union, appealed to the people of Teso to remain united and peaceful during this campaign period so that the region continues growing economically.

He also thanked the vice president for her successful nomination which is a great milestone for the growth and development of democracy in Uganda.

Emolot was grateful to the government and President Museveni for giving out five education scholarships to Teso students in Soroti flying school, and reinstating science scholarships in Soroti university of science and technology.
