Muslim youth have been urged to strengthen their commitment to Islamic teachings and focus on positive values instead of falling prey to the negative influence of social media platforms that are increasingly affecting their moral conduct.
The call was made on May 27, 2026, by senior Islamic scholar and teacher at Bilal Secondary School, Sheikh Mutumba Raafi Hassan, while preaching to Muslim faithful during Eid al-Adha prayers held at the school grounds in Bwaise.
Sheikh Mutumba expressed concern that despite being the largest segment of the country’s population, many young people have neglected religious teachings and instead devoted much of their time to social media platforms such as TikTok, where they are exposed to harmful content and unhealthy lifestyles.
He urged the youth to embrace messages from religious leaders that promote love, hard work, discipline, and the fear of Allah, saying these values are essential for building a prosperous and responsible society.
Addressing young Muslim women, Sheikh Mutumba also raised concern over what he described as inappropriate dressing, promiscuity, and the posting of indecent content on social media platforms, warning that such behavior negatively reflects on families and society.
He appealed to the government to strengthen collaboration with educational institutions, religious leaders, and cultural institutions in order to promote patriotism and guide young people into becoming responsible citizens.
Meanwhile, the Principal of Bilal Chain of Schools, Sheikh Muhammad Kamoga, encouraged parents to enroll their children in the institution for holistic education. He described Bilal as a well-established name in the education sector, supported by highly qualified and experienced staff committed to nurturing future leaders.
He also called upon parents to support the school’s ongoing development projects aimed at improving its capacity to provide quality education to students.
