Controversial socialite and self-styled philanthropist Bryan Kirumira, widely known as Bryan White, has been sent to Luzira Upper Prison after the Chief Magistrate’s Court in Makindye denied him bail in a tense and highly restricted hearing.

Kirumira, who was wheeled into the court chambers due to a reported medical condition, is facing grave charges of human sacrifice and manslaughter following the death of a 25-year-old woman at his residence.
The hearing took an unusual turn when Chief Magistrate Sarah Basemera ordered journalists out of her chambers, locking the doors and proceeding only with the accused, select police officers, and the deceased’s father present.
After several hours behind closed doors, the magistrate ruled that the socialite be remanded to the maximum-security Luzira Upper Prison until his next scheduled appearance next week.
A court official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the decision to deny bail is connected to unresolved legal concerns stemming from earlier high-profile allegations, though prosecution details remain sealed.
“He has been denied bail and will be held at Luzira until his next hearing. The full details of the charges remain confidential at this stage,” the official said.
Once celebrated for his flashy acts of charity, Bryan White has in recent years become a deeply polarizing public figure. His brand of celebrity has been overshadowed by recurring accusations, including sexual misconduct and financial impropriety, allegations he has repeatedly denied.
The decision to confine him to Luzira Upper Prison, a facility reserved for offenders facing some of the country’s most serious crimes, has only intensified national speculation about the severity of the case now unfolding against him.
