A quiet morning at a primary school in Mukono District turned into the scene of a calculated crime when two men, posing as official electricity workers, allegedly pulled off a bold act of vandalism in plain sight.
Paul Kakooza, 24, and Bernley Tenywa, 32, now sit in police custody after their cover story unraveled.

According to authorities,  the pair arrived at Emeralt Primary School in Kasai dressed in uniforms resembling those of the Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited, confidently claiming they were there to take routine meter readings.
But what appeared to be routine quickly took a suspicious turn.
Witnesses say the men wasted no time climbing the pole and tampering with the school’s power lines.

Instead of conducting legitimate work, they allegedly dismantled and removed electric cables supplying electricity to the school, an operation that required both precision and nerve.
Investigators revealed that the suspects had no identification to back their claims, raising immediate red flags.

Their getaway plan, too, seemed carefully staged. The pair were reportedly using a Bajaj Boxer motorcycle, registration number UFR 408P, with its number plate painted blue in an apparent attempt to mimic official UEDCL transport.
The disguise, however, wasn’t enough to keep suspicion at bay.
Police moved in before the duo could vanish, bringing their alleged scheme to an abrupt end.

Now behind bars, Kakooza and Tenywa await prosecution as authorities continue to piece together the extent of their activities and whether more targets were in their sights.
