KAMPALA, Uganda : Police at the Jinja Road Police Division have arrested four suspects in what authorities describe as a major breakthrough in a wave of robberies that has plagued Naguru and surrounding areas in recent weeks.
The arrests stem from a simple robbery reported on February 13, 2026 at about 1:30am in Naguru Kasenke II.
The victim, identified as Igelet, was allegedly attacked and robbed in the early morning hours, a time investigators say has become a pattern for the suspects.
Preliminary investigations link the group to multiple cases of simple and aggravated robbery across Naguru. Detectives say the suspects targeted pedestrians during the late evening and early morning hours, often using pavers and other blunt objects to threaten and assault their victims before stealing personal belongings.
The four suspects have been identified as:
Akbar Ashraf, a resident of Binyonyi Zone, Naguru Parish II, Nakawa Division, Kampala District, Jinior Wachini; Robert Oketch; and George Ogolo.
Police believe the arrests could significantly curb the rising incidents of violent street robberies that have left residents living in fear in the area.
The suspects are expected to be charged and arraigned in court upon completion of investigations. Authorities say operations are ongoing and have urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.
