SAD NEWS: The wife of jailed Alex Waiswa Mufumbiro has died after a prolonged illness, drawing sympathy from opposition supporters and the public.
Edith Katende Nabunya passed away in the early hours of Wednesday, shortly after 3:00 a.m., following a battle with cancer.
Her death was confirmed by Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, the president of the National Unity Platform, through a message shared on his X (formerly Twitter) account.
“It is with a heavy heart that I announce the passing of our dear sister and comrade, Edith Katende Mufumbiro,” he wrote, mourning her as the wife of the party’s deputy spokesperson.
Kyagulanyi highlighted the painful circumstances surrounding her death, noting that her husband remains in detention.
“At the time of her passing, her dear husband, Waiswa, remains detained at Luzira Upper Prison. His only crime is speaking out against injustice and misrule,” he added.
Mufumbiro, a vocal figure within the opposition NUP, is currently on remand.
Nabunya’s death has triggered an outpouring of condolences from party supporters and members of the public, many expressing concern and solidarity with the bereaved family during this difficult period.
