KAMPALA, Uganda : The concerted efforts of the Kampala Metropolitan Emyooga SACCO leaders’ presidential mobilization task force to launch mass sensitization campaigns focused on building the capacity of Emyooga programme SACCO leaders greatly contributed to the massive vote for the NRM presidential candidate.
The remarks were made on 2nd February 2026 by the task force chairperson, Tumwebaze Richard, during an exclusive interview with this website in Kampala.
Tumwebaze noted that, together with his 20-member team of young, energetic, and dedicated NRM cadres, they rolled out a massive capacity-building campaign dubbed the “Launch of the Special Emyooga SACCO Leaders’ Presidential Mobilization Sensitization Drive.” The campaign was conducted within the Kampala Metropolitan Area, covering five divisions of Kampala City and ten divisions in Wakiso District, bringing the total to 15 divisions.
He believes their efforts significantly contributed to increased awareness of the programme and helped mobilize leaders to reach more Emyooga beneficiaries within their respective divisions. This development mirrored a positive impact, as more people embraced and appreciated the President’s message of fighting household poverty through participation in the Emyooga programme.
He further observed that after conducting deliberate research on the general performance and absorption of the Emyooga programme across its 18 categories, it emerged that capacity building among leaders was inadequate. This gap necessitated their intervention to strengthen leadership capacity by boosting morale and improving performance.
Tumwebaze thanked the President and the entire leadership of the Microfinance Support Centre (MSC) for entrusting them with the opportunity to reach hundreds of SACCO leaders within the metropolitan area, which ultimately generated a positive impact for the government.
The campaign covered all five divisions of Kampala City, as well as ten divisions in Wakiso District, including Kasangati, Wakiso Sub-county, Busukuma, Katabi, Kira, Nabweru, Kakiri, Masulita, Entebbe, and Gombe.
Several government officials, including Resident District Commissioners (RDCs), division commercial officers, town clerks, and division community development officers (DCDOs), as well as religious leaders, business leaders, and members of the media, attended the launch programmes. Collectively, they appreciated Tumwebaze and his team for the strategic campaign, which was themed around empowering communities to fight poverty using Emyooga as a vehicle for development.
