KAMPALA, Uganda: Renowned gospel artist and politician Irene Kusiima successfully hosted a thrilling gospel music charity show aimed at raising funds to support single mothers.
The event, held over the weekend at her T.Star Restaurant in Ntinda, attracted several high-profile guests, including Frederick Ruhindi, the NRM parliamentary candidate for Nakawa East; Alice Mary Natukunda, a brand activator with Union Uganda; and Bandutsya Stephen, Vice Chairperson of the Kampala District Council of Older Persons and Chairperson of the Nakawa Division Older Persons Council, among others.
Ruhindi commended Kusiima for organizing such an impactful charity event dedicated to supporting single mothers, a group that continues to face numerous social and economic challenges. He encouraged others to emulate her initiative and urged beneficiaries to actively participate in government-funded economic empowerment programmes, both educational and business-oriented, as a sustainable pathway out of poverty.
He further appealed to residents of Nakawa East to entrust him with a seat in the 12th Parliament, pledging to effectively legislate for policies that promote economic growth and development.
Representing Union Uganda, Alice Mary Natukunda applauded Kusiima’s efforts and highlighted the organization’s commitment to empowering women. She noted that Union Uganda, which operates in sectors such as transport, housing, mineral water, and petroleum products, is ready to offer employment opportunities to hundreds of young women.
Natukunda revealed that Union Uganda has successfully brought together key players in the transport sector including buses, boda bodas, and taxis under one umbrella with the goal of professionalizing the industry. She also donated two fully-paid trip slots to Kusiima to join a Union Uganda delegation attending a strategic business planning retreat in Dubai from January 8 to 12, 2026.
The retreat will focus on expanding the Union’s business portfolio and positioning the organization to create more job opportunities for young people, including single mothers, as the next government takes office.
In her remarks, Kusiima, who also serves as Chairperson of the NRM Women’s League in Nakawa Division, expressed gratitude to Union Uganda for the opportunity. She said the trip would equip her with valuable knowledge and skills to effectively advocate for economic empowerment programmes for the people of Uganda, particularly in Nakawa Division.
Kusiima further revealed that proceeds from her maiden charity show will be used to procure basic necessities for single mothers.
Meanwhile, Apostle Dr. Isaac Luganda, Country Director of the African Hospitality Initiative (AHI), donated 100 Bibles to support the cause and pledged to strengthen collaboration with Kusiima, particularly in building youth capacity through skills-training programmes.
