Senior journalist Solomon Sserwanjja has been elected LC1 chairperson of Bamutakudde Village in Mukono North after edging his closest rival by just one vote in a tightly contested election.

Sserwanjja, a former news anchor at NBS TV and NTV Uganda who contested as an independent candidate, secured 106 votes, narrowly defeating National Unity Platform (NUP) candidate Lule Badru, who garnered 105 votes. The race also featured another independent candidate, David Kyambadde Zziwa.

The dramatic one-vote victory makes Sserwanjja the new LC1 chairperson of Bamutakudde Village, where he has pledged to usher in a new era of accountable leadership and improved service delivery.

Speaking shortly after being declared the winner, Sserwanjja thanked residents for entrusting him with the leadership of the village and vowed to transform Bamutakudde into a model community.

“We are going to transform this village into a model village. It is going to be a place we proudly call home and where people can thrive. The people of Bamutakudde are ready for a fresh start,” he said.

He outlined an ambitious agenda that includes improving access to clean water, installing street lights, creating employment opportunities for young people, and helping residents benefit from government programs such as the Parish Development Model.

Sserwanjja also promised to strengthen transparency and accountability by opening an official village bank account to manage community resources.

“We are going to have a five-year strategic plan and an annual budget. Every resource that comes into the village will be properly accounted for so that we can deliver services such as clean water, education, and better infrastructure,” he said.

He added that he intends to mobilize support from friends, companies, and development partners to supplement local resources and accelerate development projects in the village.

He emphasized that effective service delivery begins at the grassroots and said his experience in journalism, leadership, and resource mobilization would help improve the lives of residents.

“I have brought all the experience, connections, and skills I have gained over the years back to my community. My focus now is serving the people of Bamutakudde because everything that affects this village affects me,” Sserwanjja said.

He also stressed the importance of promoting integrity in local leadership, arguing that the fight against corruption must begin at the village level before extending to higher levels of government.

“As the people of Bamutakudde, we want to show that with good leadership, a village can grow, people’s lives can improve, and services can be delivered effectively,” he said.

Despite speculation about his future political ambitions, Sserwanjja said his immediate priority is serving the people of Bamutakudde over the next five years and delivering on the promises he made during his campaign.
