An accountant at National Teachers College (NTC) Kaliro has been remanded to Luzira Prison over allegations of causing a financial loss of Shs121 million to the Government of Uganda.
Clement Epalat Okiria, 55, appeared before the Anti-Corruption Court on Tuesday where he was charged with causing financial loss. He denied the charge.
Grade One Magistrate Esther Asiimwe remanded Okiria until August 12, 2026, when he is expected to return to court for mention of the case and hearing of his bail application.
According to the Inspectorate of Government, Okiria is jointly charged with Evelyn Grace Lanyero, the Principal of NTC Kaliro, with abuse of office and causing financial loss amounting to Shs121 million.
The two officials are currently on interdiction.
Lanyero was arraigned before the Anti-Corruption Court last year, where she was remanded before subsequently securing bail.
Court heard that Okiria had been on the run since last year before he was arrested on July 31, 2026.
The prosecution is being led by Principal Inspectorate Officer William Moses Ntumwa from the Inspectorate of Government.
