CRIME: Kampala Metropolitan Police have carried out a series of coordinated operations across the city and surrounding districts, resulting in the arrest of more than 400 suspects and the seizure of drugs and burglary tools.
The sweeping operations, which took place over the past two days, targeted notorious hotspots across Kampala and Wakiso. In Kira Division, police moved on Mulawa Trading Centre and Najjera Kamwanyi, arresting scores of individuals suspected of involvement in criminal activities.
Simultaneously, officers in Old Kampala combed through Kisenyi and Muza zones, netting more than 150 suspects in a single evening. Other areas, including Kamwokya, Kyebando, Nakawa, Nansana, Wakiso Town, Bulenga, and Kajjansi, were also patrolled with precision, leading to dozens of additional arrests.
During the operations, authorities recovered opium rolls, implements suspected to be used for break-ins, and other items linked to criminal activity. All suspects are currently in police custody facing charges ranging from possession of narcotics to public nuisance.
Police have confirmed that the individuals will undergo screening and will be presented in court in due course.
The area police spokesperson, Racheal Kawala emphasized that the operations are part of an ongoing effort to disrupt criminal networks and enhance public safety, urging residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement.
