ARUA: Martin Drito, the Member of Parliament for Upper Madi County, is increasingly emerging as one of the National Resistance Movement (NRM)’s most influential figures in the West Nile sub-region, with supporters describing him as a key force behind the party’s growing popularity and grassroots mobilization efforts.
Since his election to Parliament, Drito has built a reputation as an accessible and development-oriented leader, focusing on improving service delivery, promoting youth empowerment, and strengthening the NRM’s presence in communities across Madi Okollo District and beyond.
Political observers say Drito’s strength lies in his ability to maintain close contact with ordinary wananchi while effectively articulating government programs. Through regular community engagements, he has mobilized residents to participate in wealth creation initiatives, including the Parish Development Model (PDM), Emyooga, and agricultural modernization programs aimed at improving household incomes.
His commitment to grassroots mobilization has made him a valuable asset to the ruling party in a region that remains strategically important in Uganda’s political landscape. NRM supporters in West Nile credit Drito with helping bridge the gap between government policies and local communities, ensuring that wananchi understand and benefit from national development programs.
Beyond politics, Drito has championed initiatives in education, healthcare, and infrastructure development. Residents point to improvements in schools, roads, and access to government services as evidence of his determination to transform Upper Madi.
As the NRM prepares for future political contests, party supporters believe leaders like Drito will play a critical role in consolidating support and expanding the party’s influence across West Nile. His ability to rally grassroots structures, engage young people, and work closely with local leaders has positioned him among the region’s rising political figures.
With Uganda’s development agenda increasingly focused on community participation and economic empowerment, Drito’s supporters argue that his leadership style reflects the NRM’s core principles of patriotism, socio-economic transformation, and mass mobilization.
For many in Upper Madi, Martin Drito represents a new generation of leaders committed to ensuring that West Nile remains an active contributor to Uganda’s development journey while strengthening the NRM’s footprint across the region.
