KIBUKU DISTRICT : Mother Mary Antiochian Orthodox Catholic Church (AOCC) in Kagumu, Kibuku District, has marked 25 years of service, growth and transformation, with church leaders celebrating the impact the institution has had on the community and the wider Eastern Region.
The celebrations were presided over by the Presiding Bishop of AOCC Uganda, Jacinto Kibuuka, who commended the congregation, clergy and other supporters for sustaining the church through its 25-year journey despite numerous challenges.
Bishop Kibuuka said Mother Mary AOCC Kagumu has played a significant role in the growth of the church in the Eastern Region, contributing to the establishment of more than 30 churches. The church is also constructing a multi-billion-shilling facility in Kagumu with a seating capacity of more than 1,500 worshippers. The building is currently at the roofing stage.
Bishop Kibuuka also announced that AOCC will ordain new priests on August 30, 2026, at Mamre International Prayer Centre in Namugongo-Janda, and the prayer centre will also celebrate its 10th anniversary on November 29, 2026.
Meanwhile, Rev. Fr. Moses Lyomwoki, the Vicar General of the Eastern Region and Parish Priest of Mother Mary Church, expressed gratitude to God and Bishop Kibuuka for the continued support extended to the church.
With tears of joy, Fr. Lyomwoki said the 25th anniversary is a testimony to the church’s growth and impact over the years, pointing to transformed lives, testimonies from believers, schools and the construction of the mega church as some of the key achievements.
He said the anniversary provides an opportunity for the congregation to celebrate the progress made while looking forward to greater growth and service to the community.
