Police in Kira Division, working jointly with sister security agencies, carried out a late-night operation in Buwate–Najjera, Kira Municipality, arresting ten suspected gang members in a bid to disrupt criminal activity in the Kampala Metropolitan Area.
The operation, conducted on January 29, 2026, at about 10:00pm led officers to a wooden structure where the suspects were found allegedly smoking suspected narcotic substances. Police recovered several exhibits, including rolled sticks and powdered leaves believed to be illegal drugs.
According to preliminary investigations, the suspects are part of criminal gangs that reportedly use narcotics before carrying out attacks on pedestrians and stoning moving vehicles in the area.
All ten suspects are currently being held in police custody as investigations continue. A case of possession of narcotic substances, specifically opium, has been registered, and the suspects are expected to be arraigned in court.
Police have reiterated their commitment to maintaining law and order, noting that similar security operations will continue during and after the election period to ensure public safety.
