KAMPALA – Pearl Bank has marked one year since its transition from PostBank Uganda, saying the rebrand has strengthened its identity as a proudly Ugandan financial institution while expanding access to banking services and supporting economic growth across the country.
The bank said the change to Pearl Bank, approved by shareholders in June last year, was more than a new name and corporate identity. It represented a strategic transformation aimed at positioning the institution as a trusted partner in fostering prosperity for Ugandans through financial inclusion, digital innovation and support for entrepreneurship.
Speaking about the milestone, Priscilla Akora, Head of Marketing and Communications at Pearl Bank, said the rebrand reflected the bank’s long-term vision rather than simply introducing a new logo and colours.
“The rebrand journey is more than a name change. It was a carefully thought-through strategy that reflects our broader vision and purpose of fostering prosperity for Ugandans. The new identity represents our transformation into a digitally progressive, inclusive and nationally grounded financial institution,” Akora said.
Akora explained that the name Pearl Bank was inspired by Uganda’s identity as the “Pearl of Africa”, symbolising prosperity, trust, wisdom and national pride.
She said the new brand reinforces the bank’s commitment to stability, reliability and supporting the country’s economic development as a wholly Ugandan-owned financial institution.
According to the bank, its strategy is anchored on two key priorities: driving sustainable financial inclusion by providing accessible and affordable financial services, and stimulating entrepreneurship by supporting businesses and job creation across the country.
Pearl Bank says it is advancing these goals through products such as agricultural value chain financing, school fees and business loans for micro, small and medium enterprises, alongside digital services including the Pearl Bank App, Wendi Mobile Wallet, mobile payment solutions and USSD banking.
The bank noted that these services are designed to help individuals and businesses access finance, save, make payments and grow their enterprises, particularly in underserved communities.
As part of its expansion following the rebrand, Pearl Bank opened a new branch in Luwero in November last year, increasing its branch network to 59. The network is supported by 59 ATMs, more than 13,000 Wendi banking agents, 14 mobile banking vans and a new head office on Roscoe Road in Kololo.
Akora said the corporate rebranding has largely been completed across the bank’s branches, digital platforms and customer touchpoints, although some co-branded materials with external partners are still being updated.
Reflecting on the transition, Akora thanked customers, staff, partners, management and the board for supporting the transformation.
“We have received a lot of positive feedback that the new name truly reflects who Uganda is, the Pearl of Africa. We thank our customers for embracing the new identity and reaffirm our commitment to aligning our products and services with our purpose of fostering prosperity for Ugandans, because when you grow, Uganda prospers,” she said.
