The NRM Electoral Commission Chairperson, Dr. Tanga Odoi, has declared Philip Oucor as the official NRM flag bearer for Pingire County in Serere District. This announcement effectively ended days of speculation and tension surrounding the outcome.
Speaking at a press conference held at Kyadondo on 22nd July 2025, Dr. Tanga stated that the commission had resolved the matter by confirming Oucor as the duly elected candidate in a race that featured six contenders.
He thanked the voters of Pingire County and all stakeholders for maintaining unity in diversity and ensuring a peaceful electoral process. He urged the other candidates to rally behind Oucor in the upcoming general election.
The candidates in the race included Abuko Charles, Ojit Peter, Olupot Ambrose, Omedu John, and the incumbent, Opolot Fred, who received 1,796 votes. Philip Oucor emerged the winner with 17,497 votes.
Meanwhile, Dr. Tanga noted that the commission had received a total of 103 petitions by the close of the day. He clarified that most of these were observations and not formal challenges to the results.
He also cautioned the defeated candidates against interfering with the upcoming NRM district LCV party primaries scheduled for Thursday, warning that such actions would attract severe consequences.
Dr. Tanga expressed concern over emerging intelligence reports suggesting that some defeated candidates might be planning to disrupt the LCV elections.
He warned that punitive measures would be taken against any individuals found responsible, emphasizing that such behavior tarnishes the image of the NRM.
